Hot Sania Mirza Shoaib Malik marriage controversy

Just in case you are coming back from outer space... Sania Mirza is a world famous Tennis Player.

So watz so great about this Sania... She just happens to be from a country where people live and die for Cricket... Any other sport ... and you really are going to find it difficult to get Sponsors (err...I dont want to talk about viewers). In this country, tennis is considered to be the game of the rich people as ... er... we only see the rich playing tennis. Being not so known sport among the rural, it is the Wimbledons on TV that gave people the idea about the sport... With not much local popularity and not so much big crowds, it was not much surprising that Indians did not reach the high tennis rankings.

Sania Mirza's entry into tennis world championship turned many heads and that too for multiple reasons.

One was obviously the fantastic tennis she was playing for India in the World's grounds and the second was her glamorous sexy looks.

In a country where people are so traditional and culture conscious(?!), a Muslim girl in a mini skirt showing her thighs/legs and tight shirts was too hot to handle for the young generation (older men included). The better she played, the more famous she became.... the more famous she became, the more photos they published. Her photos on magazines and everywhere slowly moved from her being shown as a sports star to being photographed in more provocative posses. This trend got her into trouble with Muslim religious leaders who felt, as a Muslim she should not be wearing revealing clothes.

Sania Mirza's talks in a press conference on safe sex got her into trouble again.  Her prescription for safe sex was mistaken by some to be her recommendation for pre-marital sex.  She was accused of sending wrong signal to others.  She had to clarify later on that she was not in favour of pre-marital sex.

Sania was watching a match of her compatriot Rohan Bopanna in Hopman Cup in a resting pose where she kept her feet on the table in front. It so happened that a small national flag (basically kept for decoration/cheering on the table) was on the same table. A photograph taken of Sania in this leisure position was branded by someone as an insult to the National Flag. As Sania Mirza's hot news and pictures both sell equally good, the media spread it all over and it almost got her to court to be prosecuted for insult of National flag.

Her partnership with Israeli player Shahar Peer got her into trouble of controversy as Israel was perceived to be anti Muslim by some.  Again media sold more news...

She got into trouble again with a lawsuit against her for illegally trespassing a mosque while shooting of an advertisement featuring her in a mosque in Hyderabad.

Fed up of getting into trouble over trivials issues and hence losing focus on her games, on 4 February 2008, Sania Mirza said that she would stop appearing in tennis tournaments held in India, starting with the 2008 Bangalore. This itself became an issue with getting more media eye with Indian tennis legend's comment that there is nothing above playing for one’s own country in front of home fans and Sania should play in India.

All was fine for some time after her engagement with her childhood friend when suddenly in January 2010 Sania called off her engagement. Though media was very happy to find fault with the couple, it was pushed off to the side with the couple breaking off on incompatibility but with no enemity.

If all the above list of trouble and controversies was not good enough, Sania got herself into the biggest trouble of all time by declaring to marry a Pakistan cricketer (ex-Captain) Shoaib Malik.

This decision was like a bolt from the blue for her India fans.

Majority people in India, consider Pakistan to be enemy no.1 of India. Any sport event between these two countries is itself played and watched like a war! It so happens that these two neighbours have had wars in between them. Kashmir issue and terrorism related problems have always kept the relationship between these countries sore.

In this situation, any Indian getting married to Pak is itself is not so welcome. However a person representing India for tennis to be a Pakistan player's wife is not digestable for many in the masses. The dislike for Sania's personal choice is spreading India from fans to politicians.

To make matters worse, Pak is asking her to be like a loyal Muslim wife and represent Pak tennis !

When Sania was already in this soup, Shoaib Malik's entry with his controversy has added more fire. It has been told that Shoaib Malik had already married an Indian girl from Hyderabad and was still married. Now that girl's parents have started creating problem from Shoaib Malik and the proposed marriage between Sania and Shoaib might get delayed.

If this is start of this marriage story... then what will happen in future?

According to the complaints, Sania was allegedly not standing in attention when the national anthem was being played during the closing ceremony of an international women's tennis tournament where she was the chief guest.  Just with her marriage near, the court is set to hear it.

Hyderabad Police reached Sania Mirza's house and questioned Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, who is her prospective bridegroom, in a case filed against him by Mohammed Siddiqui father of Ayesha who claimed Shoaib Malik had married her and even had intimate relationship including a miscarriage for Ayesha.

A case under Sections 420 (cheating), 498-A (dowry harassment) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been booked against Malik at the Banjara Hills Police Station.

Police have taken away Shoaib Malik's passport for verification but also has asked him not to leave the country.

When questioned by police, Shoaib has said that he was cheated by Ayesha and family by showing wrong photograph and forced into a marriage which he believes is not valid.

In a joint press conference Sania was in full support of Shoaib Malik.

Meanwhile a Mumbai based film actress is said to be signing an online petition with about 100s of her fans asking Sania not to rush through the marriage until allegations against Shoaib Malik are proved as false.

One good thing for the Pak cricketer was Pakistan High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik contacted Shoaib Malik on phone and assured him of every possible help. Pak Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit said that Shoaib Malik would be given all-out support.

Meanwhile the Pakistan cricket team that toured India in 2005 said it did attend a dinner hosted by the Siddiqui family in Hyderabad but had never been introduced to any girl named Ayesha Siddiqui as Shoaib Malik's wife.

Shoaib Malik's time seems really bad as just a few days before did the Pakistan Cricket Board banned him for a year and slap a hefty fine following recommendations of an inquiry committee, which was formed to look into Pakistan’s poor performance in Australia.

It is unclear if the media is interpreting wrong and reporting wrong. In some places it is reported that he said he never met or knows Ayesha while at other places it is reported he was cheated into marriage. Meanwhile it is reported that the whole Pak team in 2005 went to Ayesha's home.

Here is what Shaoib has been saying as per different media reports.

First Shaoib said he does not know Ayesha at all. Then it was said that Shaoib's family and Ayesha's family wanted to get the marriage done, but due to disagreements had to cancel it. Another time he said marriage did take place but he was cheated by showing the photo of a different girl whom he has never met still and the marriage had taken place via phone.

It is unclear how Sania developed close proximity to Malik as just until some days back she was engaged to her classmate. Was Sania's earlier engagement broken because of her relationship with Malik rather than incompatibility with her classmate? How come Sania is supporting Malik so much if she did not know him so proximaly until recent times? Why was Sania not shocked and skeptical when Ayesha came out from no where? Did Sania already know the truth about Ayesha? If Sania already knew about Ayesha, how come Malik does not know any Ayesha? Is Sania's marriage with Shaoib a love marriage or a marriage of choice?

Here is the update on the above question. Now it has come to light that Sania wanted to marry Shaoib from around five years, but due to resistance from her family due to Shaoib's background and nature, was forced into an engagement with her classmate which she never really wanted.

Now when two people from 'respectable families' decide to forget the past and form a fresh relationship and go out and stay at Dubai why is the Indian media (and we) behind them ?!!

Finally it does seem the brand "Sania Mirza" may suffer like brand "Tiger Woods" regardless of whether Sania Mirza tennis is great or not.
